Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has approved the establishment of the Ho Chi Minh City Environmental Protection Fund (HEPF). The fund will provide financial support for nature conservation  projects and projects related to  prevent and repair environmental pollution in the city ​​ with a total capital of VND 150 billion. The City’s Department of Natural Resources & Environment  will complete HEPF establishment profile and submit to the city's People's Committee for approval in June 2013.

HEPF is established on the basis of merging the HCMC Waste Recycling Fund and the Fund for Industrial Pollution Reduction. According to the Department, the city has 1,025 businesses operating in the sector of environmental services. Regarding waste cycling alone,  the city has about 150 enterprises and facilities. Most of these enterprise want to expand their operation but face financial difficulties.

At present, there are Vietnam Environment Protection Fund  having charter capital of VND 500 trillion and 20 funds of provinces and cities nationwide such as Hanoi (300 billion), Binh Duong (55 billion) , Ba Ria - Vung Tau (100 billion), Dong Nai (10 billion) . These funds provide financial support for programs and projects related to the nature and biodiversity conservation, prevention and recovery of environmental pollution, degradation and environmental problems.
