Summary of import/export of wastes under the Waste Management Law in 2013

The Ministry of the Environment has published a summary of export confirmations and import permissions of wastes for the period between January and December of 2013 under the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law. The number of export confirmations and import permissions of wastes were 38 cases and 11 cases, respectively. Total amount of export and import of wastes were 1,464,763 tons and 1,988 tons, respectively. All of the exported wastes were ash from coal fired power plants destined for cement production in the Republic of Korea and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Imported wastes included waste batteries and waste iodine-containing catalytic substances, which were received from Taiwan and the Republic of Korea for the purpose of resource recovery.
